The European Commission gives the go-ahead for Poland's state aid for the country's new nuclear power plant.

Poland wants to provide state-owned energy company PEJ with direct price support for 40 years for the three reactors being built in Lubiatowo-Kopalino in northern Poland. The support also includes a capital injection of 30 percent of the cost and state guarantees for the loans required to finance the construction.

Tuesday's approval from the European Commission comes after Poland agreed, among other things, to shorten the price support period from 60 years to 40 years.

The nuclear power plant is scheduled to be completed in the 2030s and is estimated to cost 178 billion zlotys – just over 450 billion Swedish kronor.
