Two euros. That's how much tourists will soon have to shell out to visit the world-famous Trevi Fountain in Rome.

The new rules will come into effect on January 7, according to Italian media . Then, two queues will be created at the fountain area: One for Romans, who can enter for free, and one for tourists, who are asked to be prepared to pay the equivalent of just over 20 kronor.

There has previously been a restriction that means that a maximum of 400 people are allowed to visit the fountain at a time.

The Trevi Fountain became world famous when Anita Ekberg bathed there in Federico Fellini's film "La Dolce Vita." In the first half of this year alone, 5.3 million people visited the site.
