The aircraft will be manufactured at Saab's facility in Linköping. Some of the subcomponents will be manufactured in the UK and, according to a press release, will "secure 5,000 highly skilled jobs at more than 50 companies" in the country.
"Today's investment will help put advanced Gripen fighter jets in the air over Ukraine, strengthening their ability to defend their country while supporting thousands of skilled jobs here at home," said Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the press release.
In June, Saab signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for 16 fighter aircraft for Ukraine. The order amount corresponds to approximately SEK 24.6 billion.
Corrected: In a previous version there was incorrect information about where the manufacturing takes place.
