I'm disappointed, but not crushed, says Gauff after the match.
Badosa, ranked as twelfth, won with 7–5, 6–4, and is now in her first semifinal in a Grand Slam tournament in her career. Her career was on the verge of ending less than a year ago when she was struggling with back problems that seemed to have no solution.
But I wanted to make one last attempt – and here I am. I'm very proud of how I and my team have made it through this and how I made it through mentally, says the 27-year-old after the match.
In the semifinal, Badosa will face the winner of the quarterfinal between world number one Aryna Sabalenka, who is chasing her third consecutive title in Australian Open, and Anastasija Pavljutjenkova.
But for Coco Gauff, it's over in Australian Open for this time. After the match, she talked about the problems she had in US Open last year when she felt like she was playing without having any solution or thought about what wasn't quite right.
Now I think I have solutions and I know what I need to work on.
Even though I lost today, it feels like I'm on the right track, says Gauff, who doesn't hide that she's disappointed with her performance.
