Even before the main hearing against the man began on Monday morning, the Stockholm District Court had announced that large parts of the trial would be held behind closed doors.

That was something the man objected to.

The defense argues that the starting point is that negotiations and trials should be public. NN's view is that the information in this case is not of such a nature that there is reason for closed doors, said his defense attorney Hanna Lindblom in her opening statement.

Wanted a Russian passport

According to prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist at the National Security Unit, the 34-year-old man has offered to hand over classified information in exchange for protection from the Swedish state, which he said threatened him, and to receive "future citizenship of the Russian Federation."

He denies it. He has not attempted or prepared to hand over classified information to a foreign power, Lindblom said in court.

The man was employed as an IT consultant at the Armed Forces between 2018 and 2022. He has been in custody since the beginning of January, after he was arrested on suspicion of stalking a security guard who worked at the Armed Forces Radio Institute.

Further suspicions

During the initial part of the trial, the man took extensive notes on a computer. He was wearing a green prison uniform and at one point he sought contact with a relative in the audience.

The man is also being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, a crime that is believed to have been committed in December last year. The preliminary investigation into that matter continues.
