Eurovision Song Contest is shaken by a new boycott threat – Spain should not participate in the competition next year if Israel is allowed to participate, says the country's Minister of Culture Ernest Urtasun.

If we do not succeed in throwing out Israel, Spain should not participate, says Urtasun, in an interview with Spanish radio, according to AFP.

The message comes after the Irish and Dutch TV companies have decided in recent days that they will not send artists to next year's competition in Vienna if Israel is allowed to participate.

Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest has been strongly questioned since the Hamas terrorist attack in the country on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war in Gaza.

The highest responsible manager of the Eurovision Song Contest, the Briton Martin Green, told TT last week that the organizer EBU has initiated a process in consultation with its member countries to come to a decision.

Spain is one of the most influential countries within EBU, the European radio and television union, and one of the five participants that are always directly qualified for the final in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Regarding Sweden's participation in ESC, SVT does not want to take a stand yet, but refers to EBU's consultation which is still ongoing.

Next year's Eurovision Song Contest will be held on May 12-16 in Vienna, Austria.
