A voyage via the Arctic is an option for shipping cargo between Europe and Asia. On Saturday, South Korea announced that the ship Panstar Acro had left the port of Busan to travel to Europe via the northern route.
The destinations are the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Poland before returning, and the journey is estimated to take 45 days.
The usual route is via the Suez Canal, but countries are looking for alternative routes. The journey via the Arctic is about 7,000 kilometers shorter and ten days faster.
Earlier in August, China began traffic via the Arctic with the ship Dubai Tower.
There are several concerns surrounding the new route. Danish Mærsk was the first to sail through the Arctic in 2018, but is now withdrawing due to environmental concerns.
