Venezuela considers leaving OPEC as U.S. influence over oil resources grows, Bloomberg says

Discussions are ongoing with American officials, but no decision has yet been made.

A withdrawal from the oil alliance could facilitate the Trump administration's ambitions to allow oil companies, primarily from the United States, to take over much of Venezuela's fossil fuel facilities, Bloomberg writes.

Venezuela was one of the founders of the OPEC oil organisation in 1960, but in recent years increasing questions have been raised about the influence it has on the world market.
