On the first day of the war, at least 150 children were killed in an attack on a girls' school in Minab, Iran, according to Iranian sources. The death toll, as well as who fired the specific rocket, have not been independently verified.
Now Reuters reports that US military investigators believe it is likely the US was behind the attack. However, according to the news agency's sources, the investigation is not yet complete. New evidence may emerge that exonerates the US from responsibility and points to someone else, they emphasize.
The school building in southern Iran is located next to a number of buildings belonging to the country's Revolutionary Guard.
According to the UN children's fund UNICEF, a total of at least 180 children have been killed in Iran since the outbreak of the war. Among them are the victims from the school in Minab, most of whom, according to UNICEF's assessment, were between seven and twelve years old.
