According to sources, the question was discussed in the talks between Russia and the USA held in Saudi Arabia in February.
In order for Russia to agree to a temporary ceasefire, the country demands that there is a clear understanding of the framework for a final peace, according to two sources. Another source states that Russia will specifically demand that the parameters for how a potential peacekeeping mission will be designed are established, including an agreement on which countries will participate.
Previously, Russia has said that the country will not accept that NATO countries' forces are present in Ukraine. According to sources, however, countries like China, which Russia considers to have remained neutral in the war, could have military personnel in the country. China, on the other hand, has been criticized by Western countries for its stance on the Ukraine war.
The information comes as the USA and Ukraine plan to meet next week in Saudi Arabia for the first direct talks since the USA's President Donald Trump's failed meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyj at the White House.
According to the USA's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, the goal of the meeting is to come up with "a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire."
The Kremlin has not yet commented on the information.
