One of them fell forward and then his bayonet pierced the calf of the other soldier. Both of them had to be taken to hospital, but neither of them was seriously injured, says Sofia Kalmeborg, press secretary at the Defence Forces, to the newspaper.
The injured soldier is doing well, considering the circumstances, and the Defence Forces say that they are working to ensure that something similar does not happen again.
In our authority, we handle weapons every day and we do everything we can to think about safety in all contexts. There was no fault with the mechanism of the weapon in this case, says Kalmeborg to Aftonbladet.
In another accident at the palace in January, a guard of honour was pierced in the head by his bayonet during a fall. He suffered life-threatening injuries but survived.
