Brynäs defender Victor Söderström made a hit on Luleå's Brian O'Neill in the fifth SM final. The move did not result in any penalty and after the match it was clear that the 24-year-old would not be reported to the disciplinary board – and will therefore be able to play for the rest of the final series.

The situation stirred up strong emotions during and after the match.

Victor Söderström won't play anymore in this series after that "slewfoot", I hope, said Luleå star Linus Omark to TV4 during the intermission.

Afterwards, he was on the same line.

It's one of the dirtiest things you can do on a hockey rink, he said to Sportbladet.

The main referees Tobias Björk and Linus Öhlund didn't give a penalty to Brynäs defender but instead a two-minute penalty to veteran Jakob Silfverberg, who in the same messy sequence came up with his gloves and stick high on Markus Nurmi.

Afterwards, the referee pair was remorseful when they talked to O'Neill.

The referee actually came and apologized for missing it, which was very decent, said Brian O'Neill to Sportbladet.

Söderström himself doesn't think it should be a penalty.

We get into a clinch and he falls, but I don't think it's more than that, said the defender to Sportbladet.

Luleå won the fifth SM final on away ice with 6–2 and now leads the series with 3–2. With a win on Thursday, they can win the SM gold on home ice.
