According to the party's integration policy spokesperson, Lawen Redar, the government's requirement for language training in elderly care, to be introduced this year, is good but not enough.
All staff who work closely with people must have stronger Swedish language skills, she said at a press conference.
According to the proposal, which the Social Democrats want examined, the state will take responsibility for designing language tests for each area. This could involve everything from leisure staff to healthcare.
In addition to a general language requirement, the Social Democrats want a language requirement to be introduced in preschools "right now", since, according to Redar, this has already been fully investigated.
All preschools must work on the Swedish language. If you already work in a preschool, you should receive language-development activities during working hours.
"The Social Democrats will wake up late," replied Minister for the Elderly and Social Insurance Anna Tenje (M) in a written comment to TT, and continued:
"On July 1, language requirements will be introduced in elderly care thanks to the Moderate-led government. During the Social Democrats' eight years in government, they did nothing at all to achieve this, even though the problems were already clear then."
