The election promise would mean that approximately 10,000 more children would be offered this extra school support, according to the Social Democrats.

All students are currently entitled to a place in after-school care from the age of 6 until the year they turn 13 if their parents work or study.

"Recreation has great potential to strengthen children's development and improve academic results in school. That is why we want all children in primary school to be able to attend recreation," says Anders Ygeman, the Social Democrats' education policy spokesperson.

Primary school covers grades 1 to 3, for children aged 7 to 10. The Social Democrats also include preschool class in the proposal.

It is presented together with SSU chairman Moska Hassas, who says that the hours between the school bell and dinner are some of the most important of the day.
