We propose that the Payment Agency be given a special government assignment to scrutinize individuals connected to gang crime, to economically pinpoint them, says Teresa Carvalho, legal policy spokesperson for The Social Democrats, at a press conference.
This concerns approximately 62,000 individuals who the police themselves have communicated as either being part of or having connections to criminal networks, according to Carvalho.
The criminal economy is estimated to generate between 100 and 150 billion kronor annually, according to the Economic Crime Authority's situation report from May.
These are enormous sums that could have gone to more teachers in classrooms, says the party's economic policy spokesperson Mikael Damberg.
The Social Democrats also want the government to establish an action plan against high-risk industries for economic crime. This could concern neobanks, the construction sector, and the healthcare sector.
The party opposes a potential shutdown of the Economic Crime Authority, which the media has reported that the government's investigators may propose.
