"It's about ensuring that all children get a safe start in life," said S leader Magdalena Andersson at a press conference together with Anders Ygeman, the education policy spokesperson.
The regulation should be included in the Education Act and be nationally binding, according to Anders Ygeman. Today there are benchmarks, but many preschools do not follow them.
"Up to a third of children attend groups that are too large," said Ygeman.
The cost of the proposal amounts to around three billion kronor, according to him.
S does not propose any regulation for the number of teachers per group of children in preschool.
