The election promise was made by S leader Magdalena Andersson and the party's economic policy spokesperson Mikael Damberg at a press conference ahead of Andersson's summer speech in Stockholm.
Child benefit is currently SEK 1,250. The Social Democrats' election promise means that an additional child benefit will be paid twice a year, in December before the Christmas holidays and in June before the summer holidays.

Andersson and Damberg point out that recent years have been tough for families with children, with soaring food prices, higher rents and more expensive mortgages.
The Social Democrats want the doubled child benefit to be introduced permanently. Unlike the other Nordic countries, Sweden has not increased child benefit during the economic crisis. Child benefit here has not been increased since 2018, Mikael Damberg points out.
For us, it goes without saying that children should not pay the price in economic crises.
