On Thursday, the government clarified that Sweden will donate 16 Gripen planes to Ukraine, with the first deliveries at the beginning of next year.
In addition, Kyiv will be allowed to purchase 20 planes of the latest model, the Gripen E/F, with deliveries starting in 2030.
The news was announced in Uppsala by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
Many comments focused on strengthening resistance to Russia's full-scale invasion.
Opposition leader Magdalena Andersson gave her full support to the deal.
"It's about time, it's a good decision. We've been demanding this for a long time and it's exactly what Ukraine needs," she told TT.
