Users between the ages of 13 and 15 are now allowed to create a profile. Clips they post through Snapchat's Stories and Spotlight features will only be visible to "friends the user has mutually added," the company wrote in a press release.
Such videos were previously available to everyone on the platform, but it was not possible to see who created the content.
The announcement from Snapchat comes after government investigators last week proposed an age limit of 15 for social media.
According to the proposal, children and young people under the age of 15 should not have access to logged-in mode on online platforms that enable users to discover, connect with, and communicate with each other, or where content can be shared.
