Besides sun and higher temperatures, grass fires are also a clear spring sign. The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has now issued a warning for Monday that concerns large parts of the country.
Above all, the risk of grass fires is high in snow-free areas such as Götaland, Svealand, and large parts of southern Norrland.
In the spring, when the snow has recently melted and new grass has not grown out, the fire risk increases in old dry last year's grass. A fire can easily arise and spread through ignition or sparks from machines.
According to the website Crisis Information, the risk of grass fire is particularly high in the afternoon when the grass has dried. When it's windy, the fire can also spread quickly and be difficult to extinguish.
The SMHI has announced that a high-pressure system is approaching the country with temperatures rising to around 20 degrees in southern and central Sweden by the middle of the week, and simultaneously urges caution when it comes to ignition and barbecuing.
