SMHI issues a warning when the maximum temperature reaches above 30 degrees for three consecutive days. The warmest days will be Wednesday and Thursday.

It is a high-pressure system coming from the southwest and it looks like we will have to maintain the sunny, warm and dry weather until the weekend in large parts of the country, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen, meteorologist at SMHI.

In the areas where the warning is in place, the nights will also be warm, making it difficult to ventilate heat that has built up indoors. "Drink water and take it easy. Keep an eye on the indoor temperature and find ways to cool yourself," SMHI writes on its website.

This weekend it looks like things will change. Then we will get cooler temperatures and some precipitation, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen.

Östergötland County, Västmanland County, large parts of Kalmar, Örebro and Södermanland counties and smaller parts of Jönköping, Uppland, Dalarna and Gävleborg counties are covered by the warning.

After days of cooler weather, it looks like a new high-pressure system will arrive from the west in the latter part of next week.

It's a little too far ahead to say for sure in terms of weather, but it doesn't look like summer is over, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen.

Facts: Weather warnings

SMHI has three levels of weather warnings:

Yellow warning: Consequences for society, some risks to the public.

Orange warning: Serious consequences for society, danger to the public.

Red alert: Very serious consequences for society, great danger to the public.
