The measure will benefit electronics giants such as Apple and Samsung.
The exceptions, announced late on Friday by the US federal customs and border police authority, exclude the products from Trump's 125 percent tariffs on goods from China and the 10 percent tariffs currently in place against many countries.
The electronic products covered by the exceptions are generally not manufactured in the USA, and starting domestic production would take several years.
Even machines used to manufacture semiconductors are covered by the exceptions, which is important for Taiwan, which has announced a major new investment in the USA. Taiwan dominates the production of advanced microchips in the world.
Also, among other things, TV sets, solar cells, and memory cards are exempt from the tariffs.
According to Bloomberg, it is uncertain how long the exceptions will apply and what follow-up measures may be taken.
