After the battery manufacturer Northvolt's bankruptcy, the government must act for new owners, says municipal councilor Lorents Burman (S) in Ekot's Saturday interview.

Lorents Burman, municipal councilor in Skellefteå, hopes that the battery factory will survive with new owners.

Now the government must take a firm grip and get involved to influence in a positive direction so we get a new ownership structure and new ownership image for the battery factory in Skellefteå, he says to the radio.

He wants the government to participate in talks with new financiers, so that they dare to invest further in the battery factory. Even more important is that the state provides new funds and loan guarantees for new owners, Burman believes.

The government, on the other hand, has said that they are doing what they can, but that state ownership is ruled out. There are also rules governing what applies to state aid.

Burman believes that this is not about saving an old industry – but about the green transition that is underway.

Many other countries have economically gone into ownership to support the new industry.
