Skellefteå beats Björklöven 5–3 in second Västerbotten derby after 8–1 rout

Newcomers Björklöven were humiliated last time, but managed an honorable defeat in the return match. Skellefteå also won the second Västerbotten derby of the SHL season, 5–3.

This is a big step forward compared with the last five or six games, says Björklöven coach Magnus Bogren to TV4.

When Björklöven and Skellefteå faced each other last weekend, it was the rivals' first meeting in the top division in 38 years.

Skellefteå, the reigning champions, won 8–1 in Umeå. A week later, Björklöven had a chance for revenge away from home, and at least things looked better in front of 5,801 spectators.

Skellefteå did turn an early 0–1 deficit into a 3–1 lead midway through the second period. But shortly before the break, Robin Kovacs pulled one back for “Löven”, and 3:08 into the third period, Fredrik Forsberg tied the game at 3–3.

That was as far as Björklöven got. Fifty-one seconds later, Skellefteå's Jonathan Davidsson scored his second goal of the night, and at 7:29, Pontus Johansson added another to make it 5–3.

I think “Löven” responded better today. It was really fun to play today, says Jonathan Davidsson to TV4.

Oscar Lindberg also scored twice for Skellefteå.

The match's start was delayed after away fans set off pyrotechnics in the stands.
