Only six of the over 1,400 people who, after being laid off from the battery giant Northvolt in Skellefteå, registered with the organization Beredskapslyftet, have been given work through the crisis support, reports SVT Västerbotten.
The crisis support was launched by the government as an initiative to retain third-country nationals in Sweden and received two million kronor for the Northvolt initiative, money that came from, among other things, Skellefteå municipality and the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.
The organization is now being criticized by laid-off Northvolt employees for giving false hopes and the organization's secretary-general is self-critical. Beredskapslyftet's focus has been to find vacant jobs that both meet the requirements for third-country nationals to stay in Sweden and then match with labor with in-demand skills, she tells SVT.
We have been aware that this will be incredibly difficult, she says.
