Dallas dominated totally from the start. Within the span of just over 16 minutes, it went from 0–0 to 0–6 against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh's goalie Joel Blomqvist was substituted after just ten minutes on the ice. By then, he had let in three goals on just eight shots.
It didn't go better for substitute Alex Nedeljkovic, who let in two goals on the first two shots, and then another in the first period.
It's tough, it's hard. Obviously, the game can slip out of your hands quickly, says Nedeljkovic to reporters after the match.
It was a bit of a snowball effect from there, it was unfortunate. We had such an evening tonight, but tomorrow is a new day, so it's just a matter of waking up and moving on.
Pittsburgh's coach Mike Sullivan says the team slacked off.
They scored a couple of weird goals early in the first period. We fell behind early with many goals. But the rest of the period, we didn't play the right way, we slacked off with the puck and gave them easy entries, he says.
In the end of the second period, Pittsburgh's Anthony Beauvillier reduced the score to 1–6, but in the third period, they got an answer when Dallas' Wyatt Johnston scored a final goal.
Dallas took home the match with 7–1.
