Six days of honors preceding the state funeral of the USA's former president Jimmy Carter have begun with a coffin procession to Carter's birthplace Plains in the state of Georgia.
Mourners with flags, banners, and handmade signs gathered along the procession route. The 39th president of the USA, also a Nobel Peace Prize winner, will then be taken to Atlanta so that mourners can bid a final farewell.
Carter's state funeral will take place on Thursday in Washington DC after he has lain in state in the US Congress.
Jimmy Carter, who turned 100, will then be buried in his hometown Plains next to his wife Rosalynn Carter.
