The concert, which shows Ahmadi singing together with her four-man band outdoors, was released on Wednesday evening – just hours before a even more restrictive law on how women are allowed to dress would come into effect.
The new law has been worked out as a response to the nationwide protests in 2022, when Iranians took to the streets in protest against the regime after a young woman died after being arrested, accused of showing too much hair.
According to Amnesty International, the law, which the Iranian parliament's speaker has said will come into effect on Friday, means that women who defy the hijab requirement risk the death penalty.
After Parastoo Ahmadi's concert, the Iranian news site Mizan, which has ties to the country's judiciary, has reported that legal action has been taken against the group that played music without following the rules, led by a female singer.
Oppositional Iranians and human rights experts, on the other hand, have hailed the singer's courage.
