Elfsborg has been boiling in the men's premier league during May and had five wins out of five possible before today's match.
But now the winning streak is over. And Hammarby's decisive goal in the 2–0 victory was made by a familiar profile.
Simon Strand scored his second goal of the season when he shot from a distance in the 52nd minute, giving "Bajen" the lead. The ball became unstoppable for 19-year-old Simon Eriksson in the Elfsborg goal after it had taken on the defending Rasmus Wikström and changed direction.
And despite Simon Strand leaving Elfsborg after four years in the club in 2023, the 32-year-old celebrated the goal wildly.
"It's magical here"
The full-back turned directly to the Elfsborg stand on the other side of the arena, and followed it up by putting his fingers in his ears.
But despite the celebration, Strand said he enjoyed being back.
can you say? It's magical here. It's always fun to come back to the Borås arena. And it's nice for me personally to get to score a goal, says the full-back, who made only his second start of the season, to Max and continues:
damn nice. One start before, and now I get to start again and I take the chance. So nice.
Second in the table
In the 82nd minute of the match, Abdelrahman Boudah could punctuate the final result with his 2–0, which took Hammarby past Elfsborg in the premier league table just in time for the summer break.
After 13 matches played, the team is second on the same points as leading Mjällby. But both the table leader and the closest pursuers, AIK and Elfsborg, have one match less played.
In parallel, Öster took an important win in the newcomer's meeting with Degerfors, when they turned and won 2–1.
Gais took a more comfortable three-pointer away against Norrköping with 3–0.
