The total prize money for the European Championship in Switzerland next year amounts to 41 million euros, equivalent to around 470 million kronor. This is an increase of 156 percent compared to the European Championship in England in 2022, when 16 million euros were distributed.
Sweden qualified for the European Championship earlier this fall and will compete for both medals and significant revenue next summer. The future European champions can earn up to around 58 million kronor, according to Uefa. For comparison, England received around 20 million kronor for their European Championship gold two years ago – when they also won all group stage matches.
Now, all qualified nations will receive almost as much just for participating, around 20 million kronor.
The prize money is distributed to the respective national associations, but for the first time, Uefa is requiring that 30-40 percent of the amount be earmarked for the participating players.
Up to the men's championships, it's still a bit away. The men's European Championship in Germany earlier this year had a total prize pot of 331 million euros, around 3.78 billion kronor. However, this was no increase compared to the European Championship in 2020.
