Sida's Director-General Jakob Granit is now commenting on the Minister for Development Cooperation Benjamin Dousa (The Moderate Party) information that Swedish aid funds have gone to an organization with ties to Hamas.

”We are now going through all relevant material and previous assessments again to ensure that Swedish aid does not finance terrorism. Denmark is now leading an investigation together with Sida, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway and Switzerland, to assess whether any irregularities have occurred within this support", says Granit in a written statement.

Routines will be reviewed

He says further that the aid agency has "established routines for risk management, follow-up and information flows to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs", but that "routines for information flows must always be reviewed”.

Communications manager Maria Selin writes in an email to TT that the agency "takes very seriously the alleged information that individuals with ties to Hamas have participated in civilian police training that Sida has co-financed”

”Ultimately responsible”

Dousa said on Friday to Aftonbladet that Swedish aid has gone to the Palestinian organization ICHR which has ties to the terrorist-listed Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The money has been paid out through the Swedish aid agency Sida during the years 2011–2025, and amounts to a total of 55 million kronor. It is supposed to have been used, among other things, by Hamas, which controls Gaza, to train police. It is also supposed to have gone to organizing panel discussions where Hamas and Islamic Jihad have participated, Dousa further stated to Aftonbladet.

– I am ultimately responsible and I take full responsibility for this and that's why we will also act. We will not allow a single Swedish tax krona to end up in the hands of terrorists or near terrorists, said Dousa to the newspaper.

Jakob Granit has been called to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on Monday to answer questions about the matter, according to Dousa.

TT has repeatedly tried to reach Jakob Granit for an interview, but without success.
