Despite living in one of the world's most renowned biodiversity hotspots, very little is known about Borneo's sun badgers. Many people who live in the area don't even know they exist.
The largest study of the species to date shows they are found in a slightly larger area than previously thought, but only in mountainous landscapes in the western parts of the state of Sabah on the island of Borneo.
“There are few places in the world that can boast a mammal found nowhere else on Earth, and Sabah has every reason to be proud to be one of them,” said Andrew Hearn, the study’s lead author and director of the Borneo Predator Program.
