The Finnish Central Criminal Police has announced that the ship Fitburg has been seized. The ship is suspected of causing the cable breaks in the Gulf of Finland on New Year's Eve, according to Yle.

The ship is believed to have dragged its anchor tens of kilometers in the Gulf of Finland between Finland and Estonia. One crew member has previously been arrested.

In total, the crew consists of 14 people from Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.

The 132-meter cargo ship was en route from St. Petersburg, Russia, to Haifa, Israel, when it was stopped by border guards and taken to port.

The Finnish police confirmed in a press release that the ship was seized at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The seizure took effect after Finnish customs dismissed suspicions of sanctions violations and handed the investigation over to the police.

The cable-related crime is being investigated under the criminal categories of suspected aggravated damage, suspected attempted aggravated damage, and suspected aggravated disruption of postal and telecommunications traffic.
