Shiffrin is still mentally leading after the giant slalom crash in Killington at the beginning of the season.
Therefore, she chose to only ski the slalom in the World Championship final in Sun Valley, Idaho – and she did it.
Shiffrin had a large lead after the first run and then extended it in front of the home crowd in the second run. The margin of victory down to Lena Dürr, Germany, was 1.13 seconds. Andreja Slokar, Slovenia, was the fastest in the second run and finished third after climbing from a ninth place.
The slalom cup was won by the 21-year-old Croatian star Zrinka Ljutic, who reached a tenth place in Sun Valley.
Four Swedish women were among the 24 skiers who lined up at the starting line. But the blue and yellow did not get it together in the season finale.
Anna Swenn Larsson was the best, with a sixth place after the first run, but a big mistake early in the second run made her lose a lot of speed and time.
She finished 15th and barely became the best Swedish skier, five hundredths of a second ahead of Sara Hector in 16th place.
In the men's slalom, Kristoffer Jakobsen, the only Swedish competitor, was sixth after the first run before he straddled in the second.
Norwegian Timon Haugan won, but just as happy was his teammate Henrik Kristoffersen. The Norwegian star finished fourth, which was enough to secure his fourth overall slalom cup victory.
