Guterres demands an "immediate and unconditional" release of all aid workers detained by the movement.
The Huthi movement is holding a large number of employees from the UN and other aid groups captive. In June last year, 13 UN employees, one person working at an embassy, and more than 50 people working for other aid organizations were taken captive.
Their continued arbitrary detention is unacceptable, says Guterres in a statement, adding that the UN is working on all fronts to ensure their release.
The Huthi movement's targeting of UN personnel is affecting the organization's ability to help the millions of people in need of humanitarian aid in Yemen, according to Guterres. The UN has now stopped all activities in areas controlled by the Huthi movement.
The detentions come after the new US President Donald Trump ordered the Huthi movement to be reinstated on the US list of foreign terrorist organizations.
