This is part of a settlement in which the president agreed to withdraw his lawsuit against the IRS and the Treasury Department, which challenged the disclosure of his tax returns to the media.
According to the document published on Tuesday, the US government is "forever barred" from investigating or prosecuting Trump, his sons and the family company, the Trump Organization, over past federal tax returns.
On Monday, as part of the settlement, the Justice Department announced it was establishing a nearly $1.8 billion fund to help Trump allies who believe they have been wrongly investigated and prosecuted during Joe Biden's administration.
Critics describe the system as "corrupt."
