CAF believes that Senegal should be considered to have abandoned the match when their players left the field for around 15 minutes during the final on January 18 in Rabat.
This was a protest after Morocco was awarded a penalty following a video review. Shortly before that, Senegal had a goal disallowed.
In extra time, fans tried to storm the pitch. Once the players returned, Morocco missed a penalty and the match continued. Senegal then won 1–0, but two months later Morocco was awarded the victory 3–0.
The CAF decision may be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The move to leave the field has previously been criticized by Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA.
"It is unacceptable to leave the pitch like that," Infantino wrote in a post on Instagram.
“We must always respect the decisions made by the referees, both on and off the field.”
CAF has previously suspended Senegal national team captain Pape Thiaw for five matches and will also fine him nearly one million kronor for unsportsmanlike conduct. The country's football association will be fined more than five million kronor for unsportsmanlike conduct by the team and supporters, as news agency NTB has previously reported.
