On Monday, Hanson appeared in the chamber wearing a burqa, to protest the Senate's refusal to consider her bill to ban the burqa and other garments that cover the face in public places.
Hanson was initially suspended for the rest of the day. When no apology was forthcoming, Penny Wong, the top government representative in the Senate, filed a formal protest against her on Tuesday.
Wong, who is also Australia's foreign minister, said that by wearing the burqa, Hanson had "mockeried and defamed an entire faith" practiced by almost 1 million Australians out of a population of 28 million.
Pauline Hanson, who carried out a similar burqa coup in the Senate in 2017, will be suspended from parliament for several months to come.
