This is in exchange for Democratic senators letting through funding for large parts of the federal government that expires in January. If Democrats do not vote for the funding, it increases the risk of a U.S. government shutdown.
Among other things, they are demanding that federal border agents reveal their identities and wear body cameras.
“Senate Democrats agree on a series of sensible and necessary policy goals needed to rein in ICE and end the violence,” said Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, at a press conference on Wednesday local time.
The demands come in the wake of the high-profile shootings in Minneapolis involving federal police officers.
