The price of bread rolls continues to rise, and an average bread roll now costs 60 kronor in Stockholm. In Gothenburg and Malmö, prices are rising faster than the general price increase, according to Nordea's Bread Roll Index.

Higher prices for key raw materials such as nuts and butter are driving up the price of bread. The price of sugar has fallen 15 percent compared with last year.

In Stockholm, the average pastry roll is 2.3 percent more expensive than last year. In Gothenburg and Malmö, the price of a roll has increased by four percent and eight percent, to 51 and 50 kronor respectively.

Five years ago, a semla in Stockholm cost 46 kronor, while it cost 40 kronor in Gothenburg. In Stockholm, a full twelve kronor per semla is spent on premises rent, while the pastry shops in Gothenburg and Malmö spend six kronor per semla.
