In December, "I am Ahed" will be performed on the theater's stage in Rosengård. The play, based on the Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi's book "They called me a lioness", depicts her upbringing on the West Bank and has previously been performed in both Stockholm and Gothenburg.
Michael Hård af Segerstad means that the performance risks fueling antisemitism in Malmö.
I'm not saying that this play will make all of Malmö explode, but it's an unnecessary provocation, he says to Sydsvenskan.
Theater manager Petra Brylander dismisses the criticism and emphasizes that the play is not antisemitic.
It depicts a child's perspective in a conflict. It could just as well have been a girl in Ukraine or Afghanistan, she says.
Also, the director and actress Josefin Iziamo defends the performance.
"Art and culture are not dangerous, on the contrary, it enriches us. What is dangerous is when politicians start controlling what art should be allowed", she writes in an email to the newspaper.
