"I have too much respect for the voters, the party, and the important popular movement work to be able to hold a position that I do not believe I will have enough time to fairly shoulder or to 'hope and chance'", writes Erixon in a long post on Facebook.
Erixon writes that she made the decision in consultation with her family and that she will "in the near future" resign as group leader for the Sweden Democrats in Sölvesborg and as a member of the municipal council.
"The Sweden Democrats are the municipality's largest party and its leader should, in my opinion, have time to nurture the voter confidence more than my time today allows", writes Erixon.
The Sweden Democrats, with Erixon at the helm, governed Sölvesborg together with The Moderate Party, the Christian Democrats, and the local Sölvesborg and Lister Party during the previous term, but ended up in opposition after the 2022 election.
"I hope that the situation that led to this decision will in the future only be a sad memory and that I will someday feel that I have time to become locally politically active again. But now I will have to prioritize my family and soon my slightly more 'predictable' work."
Louise Erixon was previously in a relationship with SD leader Jimmie Åkesson.
