When Scottie Scheffler took his first win, he did it in style. With a total of 31 strokes under par, he took home an easy win – and for a long time, it looked like he would set a new record.
The American lined up birdie after birdie, plus an eagle on hole nine, and needed to play par from hole 15 onwards to reach 252 strokes and set a new record. The previous record of 253 strokes was set by Justin Thomas in 2017 – and was tied by Swedish golfer Ludvig Åberg when he won his first title on the PGA tour in 2023.
But on hole 17, Scheffler wavered, making a bogey and having to settle for a shared record. The win means Scheffler takes home around 17 million kronor.
This tournament means a lot to me. It was my first start as a pro eleven years ago and my sister was caddie for me, said an emotional Scheffler after the win.
It feels like you're putting a lifetime of hard work and sacrifices in to get small moments like these, and they're very special.
