Last year, 688 mosquitoes were sent in from all over the country for the Mosquito Map research project. Now the researchers, who are affiliated with the Swedish National Veterinary Institute and the SLU Species Data Bank, want the mosquitoes to continue coming in this year as well.

Last year, a saltwater mosquito was found in Uppland, which has never before been found this far north in Sweden.

Due to climate change, with warmer and shorter winters, different mosquito species have spread in northern Europe. Last year, West Nile virus, which affects humans, horses and birds, was detected in mosquitoes in Denmark.

The reporting of biting mosquitoes is done on the Artportal.
