Last year's reported thefts correspond to almost 450 thefts per month, and most occur during the autumn term when students return after the summer.
According to the police, it is mostly computers, mobile phones, jackets, credit cards, headphones, shoes, mobile phone cases and bicycles that are reported stolen.
Aside from financial loss, a theft can also mean lost schoolwork and a long wait for new equipment, notes SSF in its press release.
It is important to talk to children and young people about how they can protect their valuables.
SSF's tips include taking valuables into the classroom and not leaving them unattended in bags, clothes closets or corridors.
Furthermore, clothes should not be left in changing rooms but taken into the gym.
It is also wise to mark clothes and shoes with a marker to make them less theft-attractive, as well as to lock the bicycle properly with certified locks.
