According to Scania, Northvolt Systems' industry division develops and manufactures battery systems for heavy industry and off-road segments, with a product range of battery modules and systems used in material handling, construction machinery, and mining.
"The acquired company will become a partner to Scania's Power Solutions business area, which strengthens Scania's offering as part of a diversified product portfolio", writes Scania.
No purchase price is disclosed by the parties in the deal.
"Scania and the administrator have agreed on a deal that ensures continued operation. The daily operations will not be affected by the acquisition", writes Scania.
The acquisition is a small part of Northvolt's bankruptcy estate, which mainly consists of the battery factory Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå and Northvolt Labs in Västerås.
When Northvolt went bankrupt – after a prolonged debt and liquidity crisis – there were nearly 5,000 employees in the company, of which around 3,000 were in the battery factory in Skellefteå.
In late March, the administrator Mikael Kubu announced that Northvolt, prior to a potential sale of assets and operations, will retain 1,700 employees in total.
