The proportion of new borrowers who choose variable interest rates among SBAB's customers increased by 3 percentage points between March and June, writes the state-owned mortgage bank in a press release.
In June, the proportion who chose variable mortgage interest among the bank's customers was 96 percent.
According to SBAB, this indicates that many households expect the Swedish Central Bank to lower the interest rate.
"Now there was an interest rate cut in June and the Swedish Central Bank also opened up for a further cut during the year. However, inflation rose more than expected in June, so it's too early to cheer for lower mortgage rates," says Jennie Leffler, SBAB's housing market expert, in a comment in the press release.
