In TV4's Nyhetsmorgon, Sarah Sjöström, who is now more than halfway through her pregnancy, talks about the first three months.
I got extremely nauseous, so I had to take medication to cope with it. It's been very tough. But I've felt okay in the mornings and then in the afternoons it has escalated. Then I've been lying on the couch with a bucket next to me, she says.
It's been incredibly tough, like seasickness or morning sickness times ten. You've felt desperate. But now I don't feel sick anymore and I'm grateful to be able to live a bit more normally.
Sjöström has taken a break from swimming in connection with her and her husband Johan de Jong Skierus expecting their first child, but plans to return with her sights set on the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. Then she will also get the opportunity to swim her favorite event, the 50-meter butterfly, which has now been included in the Olympic program.
Oh, how I've been waiting to get the event on the Olympic program. I've won six World Championship gold medals in a row, hold the world record from 2014, am the only woman under 25 seconds – it's one of my most superior events, she says.
It's going to be awesome, but I'll have different physical conditions in Los Angeles, you have to respect that.
