The baby is expected to arrive in August.
"I wasn't prepared for how tough it can be. The last few days have been some of the most mentally and physically challenging I've ever faced".
Sjöström's pregnancy announcement comes barely seven months after her OS success in Paris, where she won two gold medals within four days in Paris – in the 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle.
She writes in the post that she is aiming to compete in her sixth OS in Los Angeles, 2028.
"Of course, I will fight to compete at a high level again. I've always been inspired by women who continue their sports careers after a pregnancy, and I believe it's curiosity that drives me. It's not just about records and medals".
The 31-year-old has previously announced that she will not compete in 2025.
"Luckily, I've been able to swim and train on my good days. It's incredible to see what my body is capable of during this journey. Everything is going much slower now in the water, but I get a feeling of harmony when I swim, and it's incredible to be able to move in a way that feels so natural".
On Sjöström's Instagram account, several followers have congratulated the Swedish swimmer on the expected addition to the family. Football star Fridolina Rolfö is one of them.
"Big congratulations to you!!!", writes Rolfö.
