"We are, of course, following developments closely in the Middle East and the wider world, and are looking at them from the perspective of what consequences they may have for Sweden's security," says Gabriel Wernstedt, press spokesperson at Säpo.

According to Säpo, however, it is too early to discuss how security may be affected. The terrorist threat level in Sweden is currently at three - an elevated threat - on a five-point scale.

It is a long-term, strategic level that extends over time. It is not normally affected by individual events but is a balanced assessment of the terrorist threat to Sweden.

For a long time, Säpo has had ongoing cooperation with the police on measures to increase protection of parts of society that are of interest to foreign powers and to guard against violent extremism.

Terrorism expert Hans Brun believes that the attacks on Iran could lead to an increased risk of attacks and assassinations in Sweden in the short term. Säpo has also previously identified Iran as one of the major security policy problems.

Two years ago we described how we see a foreign power in the form of Iran using criminal networks. That picture is unchanged. I can't say that what is happening right now has a direct impact on that part, but it is the general picture we have had of Iran before.
